Rider Profile:
Written for 'With It Girl' Magazine
Hey Ladies What's going on? Welcome to the 2002 season.
Hopefully this Winter will bring a plentiful of freshies for us to play
in. "With It Girl" decided
to try a different approach for a rider profile, a first person narrative
view, so here goes!
This is Alexandra (Allie) Maria Bruni, coming to you from beautiful Keystone,
CO. Born and raised in Northern California. March 28, 1973 under the fire
sign Aries. Having fun, thanks to Arbor Snow, and Skateboards, Arapahoe
Basin Ski Area, Ovo Helmets, Snowboards of the Rockies, Smith Optics.
I knew after my first lesson in 1993 that snowboarding would be a huge
part of the rest of my life. Snowboarding that first time made me feel
free and powerful. It has overwhelmed my being and soul with complete
freedom of expression both body and mind. Floating, surfing down that
fresh super steep line with just the sound of silence or maybe Bob Marley
on the MD has an indescribable surge of feelings, ones that can put a
positive outlook on life.
An ideal day for me is to wake to a powder day, take a couple great lines
at my favorite resort Arapahoe Basin, then head into the backcountry with
my best friends. Or maybe to the park to slide some rails and get those
tricks down.
Though snowboarding consumes most of my thoughts and energy right now
in life, Skateboarding and Yoga are also very important to me. Skateboarding
is an incredible and humbling sport. Arbor makes beautiful longboards
that are amazing; it is truly surfing on pavement.
When asked which accomplishments I am most proud of, there are a few different
answers. Competing in Extreme events is an enormous physical and mental
accomplishment as well as challenge. Anytime I learn a new trick on my
skate or snowboard is an exciting accomplishment. Coming into my own self,
my womanhood: recognizing and welcoming the positive in my life is a great
achievement.
I consider myself a strong woman. There are two particular situations
that have shaped my character to become who I am now. The biggest was
probably my parents splitting at a young age. As well as a solo backcountry
mission for three months in Alaska. I believe I am stronger, confident,
and more independent from these events.
Besides snowboarding my other interests include listening to the Ocean
and Reggae music, taking naps, eating guacamole, astrology, and playing
with the most important and special animals in my life
Turbo, Pude,
Kita, Omar, Betty, and Nikita.
I am always so inspired to see another woman rippin it up with a positive,
encouraging and energetic attitude about her.
There are those important individuals in my life that are in my heart
and soul. Ones that listen, encourage, and often push me to give110%.
These truly incredible people I would like to give thanks and praise
Bob Carlson at Arbor Snow and Skateboards. I feel fortunate to ride for
a company that makes an incredible product. They are an environmentally
conscious company, which produce quality decks that allow me to surf the
mountains with incredible ease. Laura Johnson, a truly beautiful and spiritual
women and friend. Thanks for taking me to the Silverthorne Skate Park.
Beth Ann Kreibeil, My confidant and ski partner in crime. Matt Alfred,
Thank you for your unconditional friendship and support. Much Love to
Mom, Dad, Jan, Carters, Brooke, Don, and Shane.
Goals for right now? Find that perfect untracked line and surf down without
a care, Oh, and win the 2002 Extremes! Watch Out!
I'd like to send prayers to N.Y.C. and everywhere, may we stop the hate
and learn to love and listen.
